Imon Chakraborty, Ph.D.

Imon studied Mechanical Engineering at NIT Tiruchirappalli in Tamil Nadu, India for his Bachelor’s degree and then earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech in Atlanta, GA. After graduating, he worked as a Research Engineer at Georgia Tech before joining Auburn University in 2018, where he is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Director of the Vehicle Systems, Dynamics, and Design Laboratory (VSDDL). He is an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA).

Imon is the developer of the Modular Aircraft Dynamics and Control Algorithm Simulation Platform (MADCASP), a MATLAB/Simulink-based flight simulation and control law development platform.

Imon also developed the Parametric Energy-based Aircraft Configuration Evaluator (PEACE) framework for sizing and optimization of novel, unconventional aircraft and propulsion system concepts.

During his spare time, he enjoys flying his Vans RV-6A airplane. He got his Private Pilot license with the Yellow Jacket Flying Club while a graduate student at Georgia Tech.
